Safran Identity & Security first to launch new generation of LTE ultra cards to support both consumer devices and the Internet of Things

Safran Identity & Security announced the first worldwide launch of a new generation of SIM cards for 4G LTE (Long Term Evolution). With new features, Safran’s “LTE Ultra Release 12” cards will pave the way to successful deployments and new business opportunities in cellular LTE deployments for both the Internet of Things (IoT) and consumer devices.

New generation of SIM cards LTE Ultra Release 12The strong growth of IoT and the high adoption rate of LTE and LTE Advanced networks and devices are enabling new business models for mobile network operators (MNOs). 4G LTE technologies allow MNOs to deliver at the same time high-speed, high-bandwidth networks for consumer devices and super-efficient narrow bandwidth capability meeting the specific needs of IoT.

Safran’s LTE Ultra Release 12 cards come with outstanding new features. They bring improved security for MNOs with the implementation of TUAK and SHA-3* algorithms to bring enhanced security to new networks while preserving the privacy of information and communication for consumers.

The LTE Ultra Release 12 SIMs enable the most advanced features on LTE networks:

  • “Always on” power optimization for IoT connected objects
  • Improved GPS data accuracy, to enhance apps using location-based information
  • New direct phone-to-phone communication capability, for use in emergency situations or proximity marketing
  • Anytime, anywhere, any network: support for legacy cellular network technologies from 2G to the very latest 4G and VoLTE capability.

With the deployment of ultra-fast LTE and LTE Advanced networks, the expectations of end users concerning throughput and quality of service are continually rising and the use cases are increasingly diverse. I am proud that our team has successfully delivered the world’s first new generation of LTE Ultra Release 12 cards. These cards provide our customers with a great foundation to meet these challenging demands and smooth the way to exploit all the new opportunities LTE brings to the IoT and consumer device markets.
Yves Portalier, Vice President & General Manager for the Telecom Business Unit at Safran Identity & Security
