Morpho Set to Upgrade Albuquerque Police Department AFIS with MorphoBIS in the Cloud

Anaheim CA - January 18, 2016 - MorphoTrak, a subsidiary company of Morpho (Safran), announced today that it will provide a major upgrade to the Albuquerque Police Department (APD) Automated Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS).

The upgrade includes replacement of the previous fingerprint identification system with MorphoTrak’s flagship biometric identification solution, MorphoBIS. In a strategic step to maximize system security and streamline system administration, the APD has chosen to house MorphoBIS in Morpho Cloud, an innovative multi-biometric identification-as-a-service solution. The service solution feature of the new cloud technology allows agencies to use software applications as services, and store data on secured vendor-owned and managed servers maintained at peak performance.

Officers are looking forward to the enhanced speed and precision of searches with MorphoBIS. In particular, the ability to perform direct searches of the FBI’s databases, without the use of the intermediate Universal Latent Workstation, will save officers hours each week, and allow them to work the most urgent cases.
Rishma Khimji, APD Director of Technical Services

MorphoBIS delivers substantial improvements in terms of matching accuracy and speed over the previous system, and the new end-user application offers a modern, more intuitive user interface. MorphoTrak will manage the agency’s upgraded AFIS as a service via Morpho Cloud, which offers three important advantages: access to technology that is “evergreen,” flexible technical resources, and the assurance of secured data.

The APD’s data is physically and logically secured. Morpho Cloud is hosted on Microsoft Azure Government, a cloud platform designed to meet FBI CJIS security policy requirements for structural and digital security. The APD’s data and services are safeguarded by Azure’s use of redundant, geographically distant data centers.

The Albuquerque Police Department is taking the lead in the law enforcement community by converting its traditional on-premise AFIS to a service-based solution in the cloud. We’re pleased to be a part of this forward-looking effort that enhances the performance of the Albuquerque Police Department’s biometric identification solution, assures the security of data, and supplies law enforcement officers with the capabilities they need to protect the public and solve crimes.
